Do I need a visa to enter Germany?

Depending on your citizenship, a visa to visit Germany is not always required. Find out in the section Germany visa not required / Germany visa necessary.

EU nationals do not require a visa to enter the Federal Republic of Germany.

If you are an Australian, Brazilian, Canadian, Mexican, or US citizen and your stay in Germany will not exceed 90 days, then you do not need a Schengen visa to enter Germany, as these countries have visa-free travel arrangements with the European Union. But you will need an ETIAS visa waiver which can be obtained online.

Long-stay Visas / Residence Visa for Germany

A residence or long-stay visa is required if you intend to stay in Germany for more than 90 days for work or study. The same applies to if you intend to move to Germany permanently. In these cases, the normal Schengen Visa does not fulfill the requirements, because the Visa Type could normally not be changed after you entered Germany.
